I am determined to get to a Terang meet sometime soon and if not for the weather (I fancy a balmy evening meet - woose) tonight would have been the night
The time between races tonight is
29min 26 28 26 30 30
I know this is only really relevant to those attending but there are some meets nowadays where you could add 10 minutes to those gaps thus elongating the meet by an hour

An 11yo and a 10yo scored a running double at Maryborough today
11yo Life Long Voyage has been just that for the Drechslers recording his 5th win in his 172nd start. The Drechslers patience was evident from the get go as it took LLV 66 starts to record his first win
10yo Leakys Smokin was having only his 48th start today as he was a late starter and he has the impressive record of 48-9-6-5

First meet of the season at Melton tonight - very numerical
10 races
4 winners Gavin Lang
3 winners Kate Gath
2 winners Chris Alford
1 winner David Murphy
I've been looking out for this for a while and finally it happened, albeit with a small field.
Horses in Race 6 at GP finished in starting odds order. $1.30 - $5.30 - $8.00 - $21.20 - $30.40 - $49.70
I was looking at Custom Number Plates and saw that there is a VIC Harness Racing option.
Unfortunately it is maybe the worst custom plate I have seen
It is almost impossible to see the harness horse.
A smaller pic between the number and letters would have worked much better and maybe black on white
While on the Number Plates - I discovered that you cannot have the plate PINTO in Victoria as it is considered 'inappropriate' - apparently they check the Urban dictionary which has some whacko meanings for pinto, not one of them being a horse.
I wonder what they would make of 3yo first starter 'All Whitey Then' at Horsham tomorrow
The grey will probably be all white one day - his dam is Wrong Comment and her dam was Racist
Kima Frenning has become very popular.
Tonight she came within a whisker of driving a treble for 3 different trainers (none of them the Aiken stable)

Gee it is nice if you have a good mare.
PBD/Sex has seen Makes Every Scents (winner of R6 at Kilmore tonight) draw FR1 FIVE times in her last 8 starts!

Why does David Thorn make a 7hr (14hr return) trip from Menangle to Shepp for one C0 race?
Is he going to the Grand Final? ;)
http://www.harness.org.au/racing/fie...ic#SPC28091805
Well he may be going to the Grand Final, and the Vicbred bonus would help pay for the tickets!
Oops I didn't look at that - with those NZ starts I was thinking he was just another NZ import
If you fancy a 'sneaky' double
At Maryborough on Monday
R6 Defence Got Jumped
R8 Daddy Who

An 'El Cheapo' metro meet at Melton on Saturday

Luckily we have the $30k Swan Hill Cup tonight - it would seem that the above is how it is funded nowadays

Whats In The Esky had been an honest performer but only won 1 of 29 starts before turning 4
Since turning 4 he has won 4 in a row and tonight he rated 1.53.6 in a C1 at Bendigo
Then again Konan set the Tk Rec at 1.52.0 as an early 3yo in a C0

Disappointing numbers for Yarra Valley on Melb Cup Day.
The meeting is over but strangely the results for Races 2 & 3 at Ballarat are not up on HRV/HRA (you can find them on TAB etc)
A 12 and a 13 yo won at Northam today. Good to see the old guys bringing in the moolah
General Admittance $89 for the Melbourne Cup - the InterDom is only $15
And the lemmings fronted up with 89 bucks in hand; sure to pocket the $15 when the ID comes around. Being seen to be a bit of a lair is far more important these days than watching high quality racing.
It will be interesting to learn the attendance at the NZ Cup at Addington next Tuesday. The NZMTC seems to be able to attract all of the above qualities on their big day.
Race at GP last night had Cracka Tinny, One For Dave andMe and I'm Drinkindoubles.
I hope they were all swabbed ;)
It is a Friday and there is no harness and no gallops racing in Victoria
(both tonight only)
Greg Baum has stooped to a new low in the pretentious drivel he writes in The Age. It is time The Age surveyed their readers and found out who they appreciate and who they avoid

Another example of Fairfax's "quality journalism".
And Fairfax journos wonder why nobody buys there newspapers.
The brilliant Sinbad Bay passed away over the week at 34 years of age
Wow. Thought he would have passed away long ago, Kyle. Now I am REALLY feeling my age. Came from a virtually unheard of horse (outside of Tasmania) as a 4yo and really set the world on fire. Despite dodgy legs, he was still killing it as at 11 years.
A really wonderful horse. A life well lived old fella. Thanks for the memories.
First ever TAB monte at Alexandra Park last night. 2nd highest turnover of the night and according to one regular attendee the most engaged the crowd had been all year apart from the race with Chicago Bull
NB perhaps should be in SSS thread. The Bulls race was a Standing Start. For the long term benefit of the industry we need to ensure Trans Tasman Rivalry continues, and part of that is standing starts.
Why do HRV allow people facing charges for supplying class b drugs to feature in media promotions?
I understand that people are innocent until proven guilty but our sports image should be better protected and these people avoided until they are cleared.
Do we really need our horses wearing nose strips
Horses really do break your heart. Our best boy Jack Mac broke his peddle bone in a race Friday at GP, just one week out from the $200k Golden Nugget. We will never ever ever get another like him. No matter the breeding. No matter the buying. He was our only one.
You really do just question everything in times like this. Do you just abuse your horses and squeeze every cent out of them regardless of risk of injuries, or be kind and careful resting them at the first sign of a sniffle and they still get serious injuries?!?
So sorry to read that Katie, it was hard not to fear the worst when he dipped at the 250m, so brave to finish the race as he did. And that bravery should stand him in good stead for his recovery.
It feels now like there will never be another Jack Mac for the family Katie, but that’s something that can never be said for certain. That’s why we all breed or buy or get up in the mornings to work horses because we never know when that good one is around the corner.
We should always do best by our horses but sometimes it isn’t enough and comes to nought be that on the track, losing a mare and/or foal during our efforts to breed, or sometimes just to the vagaries of nature when a horse is injured in the paddock or stable without apparent explanation.
Feeling your pain Katie, truly tough luck.
Pretty well the reason I am no longer active in the game; a string of heartbreak with good horses breaking down. And worse.
I tried an alternative sport for a while, lighting a fire in an old fuel drum and feeding it $50 notes. Cost about the same as the horses but without the thrill. So I've still got a few old horses and the local vets reckon I am a great bloke.
Hopefully, time (and luck) will fix Jack.
Commiserations Katie, wishing Jack a strong recovery
Chin up Katie. Think about a 100% recovery http://www.harnessracingforum.com/im...ons/icon14.png
Have Ballarat got a sprint lane tonight?
The storm is just arriving
I am in Ballarat tonight but not allowed to go
No sprint lane
Track Details and first line of race description in form guide say there IS
