Nothing but Trots at Melton tonight - I wonder whether it works better than 2 weeks of half and half?
Any time the Trots gets a big splash in the newpaper for the right reasons is a cause to celebrate.
The Bendigo Advertiser devoted most of the back page, with more inside of their Friday edition to the ongoing feelgood story of the Cudgee Champ Sparkling Success and his Bendigo based driver Chris Svanosio.
Kudos to the Addy and their journalist Kieren Iles.

Maori Time off to Elitloppet
http://www.harnesslink.com/Australia...ppet-adventure
The great Ready Cash, leading European sire, 2 time winner of the Grand Prix d'Amerique, sire of Bold Eagle also dual winner of GPdA, has already had 2 starters in Oz but for only 2 starts in total - Thursday at Maryborough that number doubles as
2yoF Par Ici goes around in R4
and
2yoC Always Ready goes around in R9

Both went okay Kev and should improve

4hrs until Maori Time Elitlopp heat tonight at 11.22pm AEST
At this point MT is $1.04 on the Vic tote but there is only $36 in the win pool ;)
Watching an Australian trotter go around against Bold Eagle will really be something
Watching Sky 1 coverage where we, albeit Sweden, are the main gig and are the main topic of conversation is what a Sky Harness channel could/should be. It helps that there is not a dog race being run every 5 minutes. Gee Adam Hamilton has been great for Harness Racing
Wow, they moved a gallops races running 5 min late to Sky 2 (even if it was Turrfontein) so that we could have a 10 minute lead in to a trots race!
and we just had Adam Hamilton blurt out "Wow look at that!" when they gave us an overhead shot of the home straight
As they have said, the latitude VIP Bold Eagle is being given to have him go around in his heat
Hopefully not many stayed up to see both Bold Eagle and Maori Time blow it - sometimes I think harness racing here is cursed
I was one of those poor folk who stayed up and continued to watch what was one of the biggest shambles ever. Elitlopp, nah Elitflop!
Bold Eagle should have been scratched and the race delayed. A disgrace!
I watched one of the greatest performances ever by an Aussie in Europe last night.
Take a bow, Daniel Ricciardo!
Just heard that Maori Time will finish her racing career in Europe.
According to the official stats, Maori Time trotted the last 7/8ths of her race in 1:50 5/10ths so she most certainly proved herself despite not making it to the final
Also reading 53.44 from the 1200 to the 400 for Maori Time. Should continue to do Australia proud during her time in Europe. The discussion is she will conclude her career and be put in foal over there. Perhaps she will return carrying a little Bold Eagle!
Toohards son Luke has written an excellent review of the elitloppet here:

Bold Eagle may very well not have received the VIP treatment many perceived. Seemed there was a lot going on that many were not aware of, and a lot of which was perhaps misinterpreted by many on the day.
Great article by Luke Humphreys and I like your think with Bold Eagle and Maori Time Dot
Not up to me Richard but the owners and it appears that Maori Time and Bold Eagle are already acquainted.......
Maybe Bold Eagle was a little distracted lol
That is what Greg Hayes was suggesting on the coverage Rich as Bold Eagle has served mares it seemed peculiar to stable him so close to Maori Time
Anybody know the story on the superbly named Pantzup (Always A Virgin x Evasive Moves) conversion to trotting for 2 wins from 2 starts after winning at Bendigo tonight - Toohard?
What prompted it? Simply the move to Gavin Lang training? I don't know of another Always A Virgin trotter. Her broodmare sire Life Sign has had a few trotters

I thought it may have come from the maternal family Kev but I’m not so sure now, I went back to Pammy Lobell on Classic Families and looked at her descendants, It’s a real eye opener but no sign of a Trotter
Go back in any family far enough and you'll find dual gaited or horses of either gait. Only in more recent times has the breed become more specialised in one gait or the other but above that the horses are athletes and whilst not every pacing bred horse is suited to try on the trot this one obviously was. She was coming back off a long break and whilst she may have been switched to Gavin to try as a trotter I'd say it's more likely he recognised her potential as a trotter whilst working up and at the current and growing evolution of trotting here I guess her connections either felt drawn to the trotting gait or that her abilities would lead to better opportunities for her/them as a trotter.
Good luck to them for trying and great work by Gavin
New owners I have been informed
Rightio, I am enjoying a day on Trots Vision as it is dam miserable here (surprised it has not hit Melton) and watching everything.
In the R6 trot, Imahe Man settling near the rear of the field caught my eye as he did not have the high stepping action of the others
So tell me folks, as much as I like the look of the high steppers - is it a good or bad thing
http://www.harness.org.au/racing/fie...ic#MXB13061805
You might have to wait a couple of hours for the replay (unless you go to Sky) as they seem to running that far behind today
From what I've read for a longtime a "bicycling" type gait was considered optimum for minimising interference ( go over their knee and not hit their shins as much provided it wasn't too extreme and they hit their elbows instead) but in more recent times there is an increasing preference for a flater more energy efficient gait similar to a pacer.
Thanks Dot, I must say that Imahe Man's gait at the back of the field caught my eye because it almost looked like he was pacing compared to the others and definitely looked like he was doing it easier
Vicbred Trots finals tomorrow night. As part of renewing my love for the gait I will endeavor to watch them as I do enjoy the good ones
It seems amazing that the last race for $25k has only 2 horses in it that have ever run a place (2 thirds)
Viewing racing in that light Brenno then not only will it win $10,000 more then 5th in the final, it will attain the mythical qualities of a "winner", something that some of those engaged in the finals may never do. It will obtain a "mark" which will convey a belief that it was possessed of more ability then those in the finals who do not go on to obtain a mark or faster mark. And it will add to its and it's relatives pedigrees "black type" as this is deemed a group 3 race, something some of the finalists may also never do.
I think just as, if not more, fascinating is the $50000 Vicbred Homegrown series. Initially brought in for horses unlikely to attain lofty heights. It's a Gp2 event but limited, now, to youngsters that haven't won over 10K. This alone makes you wonder a lot about black type but I'm pretty sure it was Gp2 when the prize money won limit was just 6K. I do have some thoughts commercial breeders may have been behind the $ won clause increase. The question of why the increase has been asked of HRV by some, but no answer that I know of.
Digressing a little more, there's quite a few things about the Homegrown series, one being why it wouldn't be later in the season than May for the 2yos and, it may only be coincidental but a slot later in the season had been available to APG of late.
Trying to keep it all in context with the last few posts, why do all events have to carry black type purely based on the prize money they offer? We have similar situations with APG consolations, prize money and black type.
Considering there has been debate over the gold, silver, bronze concept v current format, using the Homegrown series, might running a couple of 25k races without black type be better and leave the VSS as is? Still a Vicbred trophy for the mantle piece.
With no disrespect to any owners who have won a Homegrown, but for the future and using the Homegrown as an example; is it a bit deceiving for prospective, newbie syndicate owners to be encouraged into progeny out of a Gp2 winning mare who competed in a conditional i.e. 6k or 10k clause?
Agree with you completely on the group status for home grown, and for consolations Wayne. I'm all for ways to distribute more prizemoney to the grass roots or battlers or what ever term you wish to use, but races that are for also rans in heats ( taking nothing away from them some may be very talented and just unlucky on the day) or have restricted conditions of entry should not carry Group status. That should be reserved for races open to all.
Whether consolations should or shouldn't be conducted is another debate. Racing folk are cut from many different cloths, for some pursuit of the racing dream takes precedence and the chance to participate at the highest level outweighs the interest in a better chance of accumulating cash at a lower level.
I would have taken shorter than the winning odds of $2.90 that Vicbred 3yoF winner Moonshine Linda would have to be by Bacardi Lindy BUT I would have lost my money (Majestic Son x Maori Sunshine)
In the 4yo Entires and Gelding Final Next Thru came so very very close to increasing his lifetime prizemoney by 150% ($45k on top of his previous $30k)
Wow what a great race that Silver trot was!! Not! 4 gallopers and and an odds on exacta beat the third horse by 50m. Were there any heats and semis with such abysmal results?
Majestic Son sired 4 winners tonight including 3 of the big ones
Brent Lilley quinella'ed the Gp2 and Gp3 trots at Melton tonight
A fair effort when you consider their odds were
$47 $12 $10 $9
