I am guessing the covid lockdown has produced all the scratchings at Menangle tonight?
yes, any horse outside 'restrictions' area was to be scratched
What a massive night of racing at Menangle with the first of the $150k biggies kicking off at 7.40
then it is five of the best until just after 10.03

And when you add Antonia to our champion fillies down in Vic - Girl have we got some depth!
Racing at their main/metro track means something in NSW
From the first race meeting in January 2022 the base prizemoney for mid-week races run by Club Menangle will increase to $9,800.
Prizemoney for these races will be advertised at $9,996, as NSW pays 102 per cent of base prizemoney to ensure all starters receive a minimum of two per cent.

It would have been great if they had increased it by $4 more - $10,000 has a much better ring to it

Yes, those Feature Story dates really are 2020 (on this the last day of 2021)

Have a look at the photo finish for R5 at Menangle last night
It is hard to see a margin

They have given it to the one on the outside
The best races are not restricted to Melton tonight, at Menangle the Gp2 Simpson Memorial sees several of last season's best 2yos competing for $50k
http://www.harness.org.au/racing/fie...22#PCM29012201
Ultimate Baxter has not raced that much at Menangle but he improved seconds to beat his stablemate Ultimate Byron again, it must not have been a surprise to the stable as he was kept pretty safe as 2nd fav
From the same race, I was thinking it might be time to try driving Smaltese as a sit and sprinter

Plenty to look forward to at Menangle on Saturday night

I can't help but wonder whether they are being a little bit greedy with Heza Son Of Agun, he is so very good but he has been up since last July
A brilliant win by Bettor Call Me in R2 for the Cravens after he missed the start but the lead and go slow tactic with Heza Son Of Agun in R9 saw the $1.65 fav miss a place in the 6 horse field

The Chariots field
https://www.thetrots.com.au/news/art...g-vic-winners/
I Cast No Shadow won by 20m in 1.49.3 yesterday
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...22#PCC15022205
In the past he has shown he is capable of going 1.52.5 at Bendigo
Menangle is faster but Jason Grimson has certainly found some improvement
You can see that the Chariots market is more generous now for many runners
The only shortener is Titian Raider
17 days ago this was the story on Expensive Ego
Adam Hamilton reported that the camp said Expensive Ego hadn’t felt great in work this morning and his heart rate had been “up a bit”, prompting his scratching to instead prepare him for the Miracle Mile.
https://www.thetrots.com.au/news/art...ego-scratches/
and here he is $2.30 fav in the Newcastle Mile to be run in half an hour

R2 Menangle
What was David Morris doing on Double Act at the bell AS IF The Mustang was going to give up the lead
Very strange
http://www.harness.org.au/racing/fie...22#PCM19022205
Yeah, Chris Alford tried it in the Terang Cup too. It doesn't seem to work as well at the bell as it does down the back. Early days of the Sprint lane age, leaders were more inclined to surrender
Maajida would seem to need a spell - she has been up a few months
In the Oaks we have $2.10 each of two
I was thinking that they had simply done the markets for R6 and R7 first but the other races are still not up - strange/slack
Races 3 - 10 (all the big ones) have markets up on the TAB today
That is slack but what's criminal is still having a dozen horses in the Miracle Mile market that are ineligible including Self Assured, South Coast Arden and Honolua Bay all around the top of the market. The markets has been updated in the past 24hrs as well because Bondi has tightened and Ego drifted.
Hot favourite for the 1st Derby Heat, Duke Of Cornwall NZ, has been scratched - it gives Emerg 1, Nathan Purdon's Zeus Dan a dream chance of qualifying from the pole

A big mistake not having Michael Bellman drive Mona Mia tonight
She was driven upside down by Robbie Morris and it would have been oh so interesting to see what she might have done if driven for her customary late finish
Congratulation to Anne and Lauriston for breeding another Oaks winner
Thanks Kevin. This one is very special ; a grand daughter of my all time favourite Top Tempo. TT was a hard knocking mare who was as tough as they come. Unfortunately love or money couldn’t save her, she had a tumour and we lost her 18 months ago. She has created a dynasty of female Group1 winners Musical Delight , Queen Of Pop, Speak No Evil (3) ,Just Hope (2) we own all her fillies except one. Dam of 10 foals ; the last one a 2 year old filly ready to trial and a surviving twin filly who was never a racing proposition and is in foal to Poster Boy.
Top Tempo was certainly an astute broodmare purchase by you.
Here is TT's dynasty folks (open up those + boxes to see more)
https://classicfamilies.azurewebsite...rseID=10028349
I am thinking the filly you did not keep is Musical Delight's full sis Classical Music - she may well add to the dynasty when she goes to the barn
We sold Classical Music about 9 months ago after receiving an approach via an agent as we have Musical Delight and her daughter Beach Music. Classical Music should do a good job at stud. She has been retired from racing but I’m not sure what stallion she was bred to.
5yo Fire Fox (Sweet Lou) came across from NZ to join the Grimson stable less than a month ago. He had had 26 starts in NZ mostly on Metro tracks for a record of 4 wins and 9 seconds
His best winning time was 1.56.6 and he had not shown any signs of being able to run much quicker of late although 16mths ago he had been beaten not much more than a length in 1.55.6 over 2600m
Last night he won by 22m at Menangle in 1.49.6
http://www.harness.org.au/racing/fie...22#PCM19032204
A horse that has won its last two on grass and struggled everywhere else in its last ten starts and comes out and bolts in running 1:49.6! And all of this just 25 days after hopping on the plane from NZ. This is the type of bedtime story you'd tell a horse mad little kid.
Two races earlier Stingray Tara starts favourite and wins easily, just 22 clear days after finishing ninth at Ballarat starting at $71. Another bedtime story with a happy ending!
And, just to be nice, the NSW stewards didn't bother to ask trainer Jason Grimson to explain how he achieved such vast form improvements after just three weeks in his care. Obviously, the stewards believe he is just a great trainer whereas Kevin Townley and Geoffrey Webster are struggling novices.
We are being taken for mugs.
I thought I heard that the Bathurst finals draws were to be conducted and streamed tonight but be blowed if I can find anything
If I am correct, it should be something I could not miss if promoted correctly
It was on their facebook. Draws are posted on there now.
Thanks Brenno. Not exactly widespread promotion, I actually looked there (but not hard enough) and saw the first story was a January story, which has somehow topped the draws
